2 out of 5 stars Sony 700's are still better   November 14, 2008
Dmitri (The desert of the arts Florida)
I just got these today so I have no long term use with them yet. But given that the sound won't change much with usage I have to say the following compared to the Sony 700's: the bass isn't as deep, the midrange is the best point about these headphones, the highs trail off too fast probably from the upper midrange on (probably around 3500hz)and the Sony 700's have better imaging.

I have more headphones on order as I type. I probably won't use these very much or at all. They say you get what you pay for. Well sometimes, given the relatively high price of these headphones, you get less than a good value.

EDIT: Although not the same quality of sound or in the same price range even the Marathon 1100's by Audiovox marketed as DJ headphones are a better value. See my review on Amazon.

Every time I break a set of phones, I get a different brand and model to try new things out. That was until I got these. Now these will break, but keep in mind every swivel DJ phones in this range will break just the same in about a year or 2 depenindg how to treat them. You should always have a warrenty for phones anyways so the durability shouldnt even be an issue. THEY ALL BREAK. First off, a huge advantage to these is the comfort. Not only are they the most comfortable dj phones in this range, but unlike some others, they are completely closed ear. The sound quality is fantastic. Better than the denons or the pioneers. Sony 700's have better sound sure, but at the cost of the most uncomfortable DJ phones I ever had. They are a bit heavy, not too big of a deal. They are bulky but the styling is decent too. Did I mention, unlike the pioneers and denons, they also come equipped with a detachable plug and the quarter inch at the end has a 90 degree arm on it so the cord wont get in the way on most mixers. listen, your not going to go wrong on pioneer hdj1000, sony 700 or even the newer denons in this range. But these Technics have a slight edge over the swivel phones at this price range. You want something better than Technic dh1200? be prepared to spend at least 300.

gReAt sound and wont distort. these headphones can get pretty loud

I got these for the mainly for DJ'ing and its perfect but eventually the size adjustments (1 through 10) on the band will get a little loose so if you set it on 5 you may find it ends up on 7. remember i've had this for a year now

perfect for dj'ing but im sure there are lighter headphones for outside use.

oh and its very sturdy and looks awesOme :)

2 out of 5 stars Joints & Headbands Break!   July 8, 2008
M. Ho (New York City)
I've owned two pairs of these. I agree with the other reviewer that they sound the best out of any DJ headphone that I've owned, but they are not durable. The headband and joints broke with both pairs within 6-8 months. I thought that I may have been hard on the first pair while using professionally, but the second failed after a few months of deliciate use. Dissapointing, especially at this price point.

3 out of 5 stars Sound great but hurt my head   June 26, 2008
B. G. Rufleth (Boston, MA USA)
I probably just have a misshapen head but wearing these headphones hurts after a short period of time. They weight quite a lot and sound wonderful but the headband isn't padded sufficiently for me and is quite narrow. So they make the stop of my head hurt.

Sound great but might be uncomfortable depending on your head's shape.
